In March 2023, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Matthew Shaughnessy by a customer of Ameriprise Financial Services, LLC alleging that Mr. Shaughnessy made an unauthorized and unsuitable unit investment trust purchase, for which the provisions were misrepresented. Per the customer, he/she lost over $200,000. because of Mr. Shaughnessy’s actions.

In March 2009, a FINRA arbitration was filed against or in reference to Matthew Shaughnessy by a customer of Morgan Stanley DW Inc. alleging failure to supervise the use of margin in customer’s brokerage account. Per the customer, he/she lost over $1,750,000 because of Mr. Shaughnessy’s actions. On November 20, 2009, Mr. Shaughnessy settled the claim for $681,817.62, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Shaughnessy’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
