Without admitting or denying the findings, Contreras consented to the sanction and to the entry of findings that he misused and converted customer funds. The findings stated that Contreras induced a customer of his member firm to give him a $10,000 check to invest in a real estate venture. However, Contreras deposited the check into his personal bank account, and then used the customer’s money for his own personal use without the customer’s knowledge or consent. The findings also stated that Contreras borrowed $30,000 from firm customers without the knowledge or approval of the firm.

In January 2018, Cambridge Investment Research, Inc. terminated Anselmo Contreras for failing to report a private securities transaction and settling a customer complaint.
