Customer Complaints Filed Against Luis Mendoza For Broker Misconduct

In December 2022, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Luis Mendoza by a customer of Suntrust Investment Services, Inc. alleging that the terms of the callable fixed rate note purchased on October 28, 2019 were misrepresented. On February 24, 2023, Mr. Mendoza settled the claim for $41,618.96, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Mendoza’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
In July 2015, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Luis Mendoza by multiple customers of HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. alleging that they were sold two variable Universal Life Policies in 2009 that were not what they wanted. Per the customers, they lost over $47,000 because of Mr. Mendoza’s actions.
In July 2013, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Luis Mendoza by a customer of HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. alleging that the client was solicited to buy unsuitable investments in October 2012 and May 2013. The customer alleges that he was risk averse, conservative, and sought safe investment options prior to purchasing mutual funds at issue. The customer states that he is concerned with fluctuation of the mutual funds, and as he alleges the principal amount invested fell by approximately 3.5% from the date of purchase to the date the firm received the complaint. Per the customer, he/she lost over $11,857 because of Mr. Mendoza’s actions.
In August 2010, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Luis Mendoza by a customer of HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. alleging that the client was never advised that there would be a penalty to withdraw the funds from the investment. The client also claims that they were never told that their initial investment could decrease in value. In subsequent correspondence, the customer alleged that the investment was not suitable. Per the customer, he/she lost over $9,000 because of Mr. Mendoza’s actions.
In April 2008, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Luis Mendoza by a customer of HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. alleging that Mr. Mendoza did not tell the client that “this would be a possible scenario.” The customer’s complaint involves one or more auction rate securities with a notional value of $1,000,000 which have been the subject of a failed auction. On May 22, 2008, Mr. Mendoza settled the claim for $1,000,000, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Mendoza’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
