In March 2023, United States Securities And Exchange Commission initiated a civil action against or in reference to Scott Trease for allegedly recommending that three of their advisory clients invest a total of $7.3 million in two risky, alternative-investment deals that Defendants incorrectly believed were collateralized by a gold safekeeping receipt (SKR).

In March 2023, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Scott Trease by a customer of Sapere Wealth Management, LLC alleging breach of fiduciary duty in violation of Section 206(2) of the Advisers Act. Per the customer, he/she lost over $100,000 because of Mr. Trease’s actions. An arbitration panel found that Scott Trease was negligent and awarded $100,000 in favor of the customers.
