In March 2020, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Ilan Tsapovski by a customer of Citigroup Global Markets Inc. alleging that the client gave Tsapovski explicit instructions that his money was to be invested in a triple tax free municipal bond fund, and was told if he should ever need any of the funds he could get them on a day’s notice. Instead of following his instructions, the client alleged Tsapovski bought and sold various securities over a period of a month despite his objections. The client claimed that he tried to liquidate his account when it was down approximately $20k on March 16 but was unable to do so until March 18. The client stated that his account lost approximately $37k and he wants to recover the funds. Per the customer, he lost over $36,588.87 because of Tsapovski’s actions. On July 7, 2020, Tsapovski settled the claim for $17,600.96, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Tsapovski’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
