In May 2020, a complaint was filed against or in reference to John Carroll by a customer of Berthel, Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc. alleging that the investments made in 2008 & 2009 are unsuitable and is upset that they are illiquid.

In September 2018, a FINRA arbitration was filed against or in reference to John Carroll by a customer of Berthel, Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc. alleging that the investments the client purchased between 2011 and 2015 were unsuitable and misrepresented to her by Mr. Carroll. The client also alleges the firm failed to supervise the actions of the representative. On April 23, 2021, Mr. Topper settled the claim for $25,000, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Topper’s employer and/or insurance carrier.

In January 2018, Berthel, Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc. terminated John Carroll for failure to follow firm policy regarding monitored email.

In December 2017, a complaint was filed against or in reference to John Carroll by a customer of Berthel, Fisher & Company Financial Services, Inc. alleging that Mr. Carroll’s advice and investment decisions have caused him financial distress. The client is upset that the representative allocated 90% of his portfolio into one investment which has not performed as he expected. Additionally, the client also alleges the firm failed to supervise the actions of the representative and that the representative received a higher than normal commission on his purchases.

In April 1992, Kemper Securities Group permitted John Carroll to resign.

In November 1988, a NYSE arbitration was filed against or in reference to John Carroll by multiple customers of Prudential Bache Securities Incorporated alleging that Mr. Carroll was responsible for investments in management accounts which were unsuitable. The clients also allege fraud and violation of securities laws. Per the customers, they lost over $553,033.74 because of Mr. Carroll’s actions. An arbitration panel found that John Carroll was negligent and awarded $13,298.57 in favor of the customers.
