In April 2019, a FINRA arbitration was filed against or in reference to Joseph Ellis by multiple customers of Commonwealth Financial Network alleging that Mr. Ellis placed the clients in unsuitable, illiquid investments. Per the customers, they lost over $250,000 because of Mr. Ellis’s actions. On December 26, 2019, Mr. Ellis settled the claim for $12,500, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Ellis’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
In January 2002, a complaint was filed against or in reference to Joseph Ellis by a customer of Edward Jones alleging that all of the stock sales made in her account in late 2001 and 2002 were unauthorized. She also indicated that she did not approve the purchase of mutual funds with these proceeds. Per the customer, she lost over $5,000 because of Mr. Ellis’s actions. On February 8, 2002, Mr. Ellis settled the claim for $1,000, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Ellis’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
