In August 2020, Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. terminated Bill Hoffman for following a review of certain fixed annuity applications for apparent irregularities in client initials on the forms. Mr. Hoffman admitted placing client initials on certain sections of the applications. He stated this was done with the client’s knowledge and permission, and provided the firm with emails from the clients to that effect.

In November 2016, a FINRA arbitration was filed against or in reference to Bill Hoffman by a customer of Royal Alliance Associates, Inc. alleging that Mr. Hoffman negligently advised the client that she could withdraw funds from her IRA without tax implications. Per the customer, she lost over $117,100 because of Mr. Hoffman’s actions. On August 17, 2017, Mr. Hoffman settled the claim for $32,500, and some or all of this amount may have been paid by Mr. Hoffman’s employer and/or insurance carrier.
